The steering committee of the European project that is being carried out in Peru meets to review the results achieved so far and the objectives for 2020
Over one week, the EU-funded project “Fight against illicit drug trafficking and organised crime in Peru”, managed by the FIIAPP, organised several activities and meetings in order to present the results of 2019 and approve the work plan for 2020.
One of the visits was to the Supreme Court of Justice, where its president received the committee and was able to learn about the work done with the country’s judges to accompany the new Criminal Procedure Code.
The Judicial Academy was also visited. Its president conveyed the progress of the project in consolidating the judicial career process with a model similar to that in Spain.
The visit ended at the Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the General Prosecutor, in an institutional act to present the strategic plan of the School of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, developed by the project.
The General Prosecutor highlighted the good work of the project team and the inter-institutional participation approach in all activities, integrating the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Judiciary and the National Police of Peru, achieving joint goals and outcomes from multiple approaches.
The visit was used to open the project office in the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which together with that already in the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Justice will serve to articulate the activities carried out in the sector.
Through an activity with the Ministry of the Interior, the creation of a new intelligence tool was approved, which aims to collect and analyse information from police investigations. This new tool will improve the levels of coordination of the Peruvian Police and avoid duplication, in addition to providing better management of human and material resources, increasing the effectiveness of the institution.
In addition, the European Union pledged during the meetings to expand the project to include the theme of the fight against environmental crimes.
