The European Union and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency meet to prioritize the joint EUROsociAL+ work areas
The Delegation of the European Union in Brazil and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency have conducted a strategic workshop to define work priorities within the framework of the EUROsociAL+ programme. This activity has allowed the strengthening of the actions already initiated and the identifying of new priorities to support public policies to improve the levels of social cohesion and reduce inequalities.
The meeting was attended by the ambassador of the European Union in Brazil, Ignacio Ybáñez. The diplomat highlighted the opportunity to intensify cooperation in the areas where EUROsociAL+ can make a greater contribution. The EUROsociAL+ project is funded by the European Union and is in its third phase of implementation. A stage in which the FIIAPP is heading up the programme.
The development of the workshop has been coordinated by the Head of EU Cooperation in Brazil, Stefan Agne, and the representative of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency , Luis Carlos Gomes. The meeting took place at the Delegation of the European Union in Brasilia, where Brazilian institutions such as the Government Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (Special Secretariat for Federative Affairs and Special Secretariat for Social Articulation) and the Superior Electoral Tribunal were present, among many others.
The activity was held after the EUROsociAL+ Programme was presented to the new government teams led by Jair Bolsonaro last May. In this context, the portfolio of approved and still ongoing actions was reviewed and interest in new work areas was initially explored, as was the possibility of opening the dialogue from EUROsociAL+ to other players, such as the legislative branch, State governments, local governments and the civil society.
The Brazilian Country Dialogue Table is scheduled to take place in the first four months of 2020. The objective of this dialogue will be to identify the topics in the field of social policies, democratic governance and equality that have the potential to become specific actions to open the dialogue thereon, approve them and start their implementation.
