Latin American countries are formed in crimes related to terrorism

The project EL PAcCTO: Support for AMERIPOL, financed by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP, has organized the ‘1st Course on Terrorism-related crimes investigation’. Representatives from police forces and justice officials from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and the Dominican Republic were trained. 

Participants from the attending institutions with experts from EUROPOL and the Spanish National Police and Civil Guard to contribute to the generation of collective knowledge by presenting data, trends and case studies from Europe and Latin America. 

The training programme was inaugurated by the Brazilian Secretary of State for Justice and Security, Luiz Pontel de Souza, who pointed out the importance of AMERIPOL’s role in threat evaluation and prevention and the need to exchange information in the fight against terrorism. 

For his part, the Executive Secretary of AMERIPOL, Mauricio Valeixo reiterated the AMERIPOL Executive Secretariat’s firm commitment to the institutionalization  process of the organization through the signature of an international treaty guaranteeing their legal personhood and helping to perfect the work they do on monitoring regional and global threats. 

Likewise, the Head of the Cooperation Section of the Delegation of the European Union in Brazil, Ana Beatriz Martins, highlighted the European Union’s support for strengthening international cooperation in the region in the area of security through the different projects they are implementing, as well as the importance of exchanging experiences and holding dialogue on a threat like terrorism that affectsa growing number of countries. 

This course was held in Curitiba, and it is expected to lead to the creation of a draft protocol for Terrorism related crimes investigations to be remitted to the AMERIPOL Executive Secretariat for approval and subsequent submission to its members.
