EUROCLIMA+ brings together key Cuban and international stakeholders tasked with defining actions for the implementation of effective policies against climate change

On September 24 and 25 Havana is the venue of a round table on the national climate agenda aimed at improving the dialogue, coordination and relationship between Cuban agents and the international cooperation agencies who are working to prevent climate change.
The meeting was made possible thanks to the organisation of the regional EUROCLIMA+ Programme and the support provided by the Cuban Ministry for Science, Technology and the Environment (CITMA).
Among those in attendance were the heads of department and officials of the Cuban institutions involved in identifying and implementing measures designed to mitigate and adapt to climate change in different sectors and regions. They were joined by representatives of the international cooperation agencies operating in the country.
One of the topics discussed at the event was the situation regarding energy, transport and agriculture, risk management with respect to the Tarea Vida (Project Life) Programme and the State plan for combating climate change.
Furthermore, the plan was to review the main actions that require international support and the way they are financed with the final aim being to establish the basis for setting up a stable dialogue and coordination mechanism designed to help oversee the cooperation funds and thereby pave the way for an efficient management process.
EUROCLIMA+ is a programme funded by the European Union and managed by seven cooperation agencies, of which FIIAPP is one. The aim of this project is to support the implementation of the commitments resulting from the Paris Agreement, in particular the nationally determined contributions, in 18 Latin American countries, and how these are used to promote environmentally sustainable and climate-resilient development for the benefit of the most vulnerable members of society.
