The country is improving prison management of terrorists and criminals through a twinning project managed by the FIIAPP
Ankara hosted the launch of the 24-month twinning project “Better Management of Terrorists and Dangerous Offenders in Prisons and Prevention of Radicalization“, the purpose of which is to improve management of terrorists and criminals in Turkish prisons.
This project, financed by the European Union and managed by the FIIAPP, is based on four basic pillars: legal alignment with European and international standards, development of mechanisms for prevention of radicalization and terrorism in prisons, development of risk assessment tools and deradicalization and rehabilitation programs, and improvement of personnel training programs.
The event was attended by the Spanish Ambassador to Turkey, Juan González-Barba, the Turkish Deputy Minister of Justice Selahaddin Mentes, the secretary general of Spain’s prison service Ángel Luis Ortiz, as well as representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey, among other specialists and important figures from the Turkish and Spanish administrations.
The FIIAPP is working with the General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions of the Ministry of the Interior and with the Turkish General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses attached to the Ministry of Justice. Likewise, the project has the support of officials from other Member States, experts in this área.
