The PAcCTO brings together members of European and Latin American security forces to promote policies to protect the environment

Representatives of security forces and bodies in Europe (Spain, France, Portugal), from Latin America (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, Peru) and international forces (EUROPOL and INTERPOL) met in Mexico to promote joint policies to combat environmental crime.
The meeting validated the “JAGUAR” operational network, which promotes exchange of information and lessons learned among the countries participating in the project and facilitates communication and request for support among all members of the network.
Other issues were raised at the event, such as the EUROPOL proposal that the Latin American countries join the Nautilus operation against reptile trafficking, through the JAGUAR network; the possibility of launching a Brazil and French Guiana-led investigation into illegal mining within the framework of HARPIE operations.
Attendees also committed to improving collaboration in the areas of illegal mercury, timber (Operation Arquimedes), and protected species trafficking (alegrete and Culebra operations) and illegal mining (operation Aphrodite).
The event was organised by the police cooperation component of El PAcCTO, Assistance Programme Against Transnational Organised Crime, financed by the European Union and managed by the FIIAPP and Expertise France, with support from IILA and Camões.
