Members of the European Union Delegation (EUD) visit local institutions in Ghana

Within the framework of the Accountability, Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Project (ARAP-Ghana), funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP, the Ambassador of the EU Delegation, Diana Acconcia and the Director of the Governance Area of the EUD, María Luisa Troncoso, visited the Ghanaian Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at their offices in Kumasi and Obuasi. 

The idea behind the visit was to strengthen ties with both institutions and evaluate the results arising from the implementation of this project in this country. Once the results achieved so far had been assessed, the project put forward new challenges such as organising experience exchanges with institutions in other countries and reinforcing the coordination between the EPA and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.   

Lines of work with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the EPA 

One of the lines of work with the Public Prosecutor’s Office is to develop an electronic tool for managing the cases investigated to improve their registration and the workflow within the institution. Registry staff have received the necessary administration training as well as the equipment they need to operate the system.  

With respect to this digitalisation process, the Environmental Protection Agency is currently working with an electronic tool, based on the use of drones, which was developed and is being implemented with the support of the ARAP-Ghana project. The tool provides images designed to check compliance with mining permits. The delegation visited the EPA office from which the pilot mining permit project was carried out.
