Police of the Traffic and Dealing Division of Bolivia have received specialised international training with cooperation from the Spanish Judicial Police
Within the framework of the European support project for Bolivian institutions in the fight against drug trafficking and related crimes, funded by the European Union and managed by the FIIAPP in coordination with CONALTID, theoretical and practical training has been given to improve the techniques of operational research on people trafficking.
In this training five departments were visited, and 145 police officers were trained, one third being women. Likewise, this theoretical learning was accompanied by a practical operation with the collaboration of the Head of Human Trafficking of the Central Operative Unit(UCO), Lieutenant Félix Durán, and the head of the Human Trafficking and Dealing Division of the Special Anti-Crime Force (FELCC), Gaby Coca.
In this operation, Bolivian agents freed a total of 115 women and eight people were arrested, all related to the sexual exploitation of women in the six localities where they worked.
The operations carried out were coordinated with the different divisions from La Paz, El Alto, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Cobija and Yacuiba, working closely in the four main cities of the country, the first four, and in two border cities.
Félix Durán highlights the importance of cooperation projects in this matter, in which “public officials who work in this struggle must be made aware”; the obligation to “conduct training so that they know whether or not it is a case of trafficking in humans” and finally, as dealing is a “crime”, the need for international cooperation between institutions.
