The EU programme, much appreciated for the work done in promoting the culture of transparency and access to information in El Salvador

In its effort to reduce corruption, achieve greater citizen participation and promote social control of public management, the promotion of transparency and access to information is one of the main objectives of the Central American country.
The EUROsociAL+ programme since 2013 has supported the strengthening of the Institute for Access to Public Information(IAIP), the institution responsible for guaranteeing this right to the Salvadoran public. On the sixth birthday of the programme, the IAIP wanted to recognise the work done during this time in support of the promotion of the culture of transparency and access to public information. The president of the IAIP, Carlos Ortega, and the EU ambassador in El Salvador, Andreu Bassols, were in charge of representing this strategic alliance in matters of public policies for social cohesion.
Despite its young age, the Institute has become one of the benchmark institutions of Latin America on the right of access to public information. Standing out for the optimisation of the resources of the cooperation, for its great appropriation of the processes of change and for its technical quality and commitment from its teams.
The work of EUROsociaL+, a programme coordinated by the FIIAPP, has also included support and backing to promote a new standard that improves the management and protection of data in the clinical files of the health system, the strengthening of audit strategies, the inclusion and development of the topic in the education system and the creation of a model to incorporate the gender approach in its strategies.
In 2019, two new actions aim to improve municipal transparency and access to information for vulnerable groups.
