This programme is working on a draft protocol for the care of unaccompanied migrant children and adolescents in Latin America

EUROsociAL+, financed by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP, participated in the International Seminar on Migrant Children and Adolescents, held in Brasilia, the aim of which was to present good practices in children and adolescents rights protection, which are the groups most affected by migration in Brazil.
The Brazilian Secretariat for the Rights of Children and Adolescents and the European Union are currently working through the EUROsociAL+ programme to improve the rights and care of unaccompanied migrant children and adolescents in this region.
“It is a humanitarian issue resulting from forced migration for reasons of survival. We have to guarantee access to education and the entire social protection network”, said the Brazilian national secretary for the rights of children and adolescents, Luís Carlos Martins Alves.
Likewise, together with the Brazilian Ministry of Human Rights (MHR) and EUROsociAL+, the seminar gathered other institutions and entities also committed to solutions based on human rights, including the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI) and SOS Children’s Villages, co-organisers of the event. In addition, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Mercosur Institute of Public Policies on Human Rights and over 80 representatives from government institutions and organisations in Brazil also participated in the exchange, agreeing that children and adolescents need to be treated and cared for as citizens, regardless of their status as migrants.
