The EU-ACT project has carried out its first exchange of experts between Spain and Ukraine and has supported the National Conference on Drug Policy
In order to improve knowledge and promote the creation of networks in the area of forensic drug laboratories in Ukraine, the EU-ACT Project’s Regional Office in Ukraine organised an exchange between the expert from the Spanish General Scientific Police Commission with the expert from the Kiev Forensic Scientific Research Institute (KFI).
During the exchange, both specialists visited the different drug laboratories where they were able to discuss quality, standardisation, training, drug testing, equipment and other aspects relevant to both parties. The Spanish expert also participated in the high-level meeting on cooperation between forensic laboratories in Kiev, organised by the EU-ACT project, funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP.
In addition, EU-ACT has supported the National Conference on Drug Policy organised by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Justice, the National Police and the Ukrainian Centre for Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Monitoring (UMHMCDA). The conference seconded the implementation of Ukraine’s Drug Strategy until 2020.
The recommendation to establish in Ukraine a Court and a Prosecutor’s Office specialised on drugs, similar to the Spanish model, played an important role at the meeting.
This event was a starting point for strengthening cooperation between the public sector and NGOs, as well as international partners, including not only the EU-ACT project but also the UNODC.
