EUROCLIMA+ has held its annual meeting in Buenos Aires to review progress and collect the vision of the participating Latin American countries

More than a hundred participants attended the annual meeting of EUROCLIMA+, the European Union programme against climate change that promotes exchanges between Europe and 18 countries in Latin America.
On this occasion, the event was held in parallel to the 21st Forum of Ministers of Environment of Latin America which made it possible to follow up on all the initiatives that the programme is supporting in the region, as well as collecting the visions and priorities of the Latin American countries it works with.
The meeting brought together senior government officials from Latin America, European Union representatives and implementing agencies of EUROCLIMA+, such as the FIIAPP, with the aim of analysing the actions that are being carried out to comply with the Paris Agreement. In addition, work is being done to improve public policies related to climate change in the countries of the region.
“We are proud to see how spaces for dialogue are being reinforced and public policies and strategies for climate change in Latin America are being supported”, explained the European Union’s Ambassador in Argentina, Aude Maio-Coliche, at the opening of the event.
This support was also mentioned by the Secretary of Government of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of Argentina, Rabbi Sergio Bergman: “programmes like EUROCLIMA+ allow countries to design and implement actions to mitigate climate change, adapt to it and strengthen national capacities, intensifying cooperation from a regional perspective”.
“The challenges associated with climate change are very broad and require a combination of long and short-term actions, taking into account the development needs of our partner countries, fostering investment opportunities in the field of green technologies and energy”.
EUROCLIMA+ is a programme funded by the European Union that seeks to promote environmentally sustainable development in 18 countries in Latin America, in particular, for the benefit of the most vulnerable populations. The programme is managed through the work of seven agencies: Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), French Development Agency (AFD), Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Expertise France (EF), International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP), German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and UN Environment.
