The results of the assessment have served to draw a roadmap that launches the construction of the new national policy
Address by Miguel Ángel Lombardo, director of EVALÚA
For the first time, different authorities have presented in Costa Rica the results of the assessment of a national public policy: the Equality and Gender Equity Policy (EGEP). This assessment was carried out by the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) with support from the EVALÚA project, funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP.
The project for the Promotion of the Assessment of Public Policies in Latin America and the Caribbean is part of the ADELANTE programme and aims to institutionalise an assessment culture in seven countries of the region.
In 2017, the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Policy (MIDEPLAN) in Costa Rica led the assessment of the EGEP 2007-2017, which this year begins its fourth stage making use of the recommendations resulting from this assessment. The objective of the event was, therefore, to trace the route to follow after the results have been established. The participants included MIDEPLAN, INAMU , the Delegation of the European Union in Costa Rica and the European EUROsociAL programme , also managed by FIIAPP.
The EU ambassador to Costa Rica, Pelayo Castro, has reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to accompanying the efforts to achieve gender equality in the region and has highlighted “the importance of cross-sectoral cooperation to achieve the objectives of the 2030 Agenda”.
The director of EVALÚA, Miguel Ángel Lombardo, highlighted the importance of exchanging experiences between institutions such as Senplades Ecuador, Hacienda Paraguay, OPP Uruguay and DNP Colombia, which provided feedback on the results of the EGEP assessment.
The coordinator of EVALÚA, Marta Monterrubio, has also highlighted the complementarity with the EUROsociAL programme, which will join Costa Rica in updating the gender policy 2018-2030, making use of this assessment and its recommendations.
