Experts from AEMET are working on creating possible scenarios for the region to set up the adjustment strategies required

A knowledge of future climatic conditions is essential for a variety of socio-economic sectors (civil defence, water management, food safety, energy, transportation, tourism, etc.) when implementing a strategy to lessen the effects of climate change and the measures needed to adapt to it.
This is why two experts from the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) have worked in five Central American countries to create climate change scenarios. An activity of the EUROCLIMA+ programme, financed by the European Union, as part of the climate governance component managed by FIIAPP.
These scenarios are a simplified representation of the climate of the future built using a variety of variables to research the potential consequences of climate change. This view makes it easier to make decisions, such as evaluating impacts and vulnerability.
Among the goals is the recovery of data from the Meteorological Services (SMHN) of Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras and Panama, and the identification of the needs for creating climate scenarios. Also presented was the assistance that EUROCLIMA+ will give to the bodies responsible for the task that are therefore involved in the project.
