We contribute to improving public sanitation in Angola

The project “Support for the Local Development Programme through the Social Aid Fund, FAS IV”, financed by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP together with the Angolan Social Aid Fund (FAS), seeks to train and provide guidance to community sanitation and development agents (ADECOS). This position resulted from the Angolan government’s goal of bringing social and health-related services to all families in the country, especially in the most vulnerable and remote areas. The ADECOS serve as a communication link between the community and the local administration for basic services designed to promote social inclusion and active citizenship. The ADECOS programme is intended to be a successful experiment and to become a model for the African continent.

The purpose of this supervisory mission, which will continue until the end of May, is to observe whether the programme is being implemented in accordance with the National Community and Sanitation Development Agent Policy (ADECOS).

The activities included visiting various municipalities in the provinces of Luanda, Uige and Malange. Among the milestones attained in Luanda by the ADECOS pilot programme, we should highlight the empowerment of members of the community and the undertaking by the supervisors of this programme to provide the municipal administrator with detailed reports so as to expand the municipal, provincial and national databases.

In addition, in Uige, coinciding with World Malaria Day, the ADECOS in this province organized a variety of information and prevention activities, such as diagnostic tests and the distribution of medicines among children under the age of five. Finally, an ADECOS provincial workshop was held in Malanje, at which they analysed whether the actions undertaken to date had contributed to attaining the results and goals.
