This European Union-funded programme is committed to green growth to generate employment opportunities and social inclusion
The SOCIEUX+ programme for social, labour and employment protection, is supporting the Peruvian Ministry of Labour and Employment Promotion (MTPE) in its policy to promote green jobs for young people and the most vulnerable sectors.
Through its Design and Implementation of Public Policies to Promote Green Jobs Workshop the European Union-funded programme shared the European experience in managing programmes to promote green jobs and business. This was undertaken within the context of the relationship with Agenda 2030 and international commitments in this area.
Over two weeks, the participants worked to design and implement pilot projects related to green jobs. Different working groups addressed issues including the economic empowerment of women in the green economy, skills and abilities for green jobs, zero-carbon, full employment, inclusive sustainable tourism and green competitiveness. Relevant experiences were also studied from countries such as Brazil and Costa Rica along with Peruvian experiences, such as the “Promote Peru”, “Productive Youth”, “Work Peru” and “Responsible Peru” programmes.
SOCIEUX+ is an on-demand programme that responds to the requests from each partner country. It is managed by an association led by Expertise France, with the participation of FIIAPP, Belgian International Cooperation on Social Protection (BELINCOSOC) and Belgian Technical Cooperation (ENABEL). A number of Ministries involved in the topic in Peru also participated in the workshop.
The workshop’s results were presented at the National Forum on Green Jobs in Peru. The Forum was organised by the Ministry of Labour and Employment Promotion (MTPE), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the European Union, supported by SOCIEUX+ and the Partnership for Action on a Green Economy (PAGE).
The term green jobs refers to all decent jobs that contribute to reducing energy and raw material consumption, limiting greenhouse gas emissions, minimising waste and pollution, protecting and restoring ecosystems and enabling businesses and communities to adapt to climate change.
