The programme fighting organized transnational crime presented its progress to date and the activities it has planned for 2018 at the meeting
EL PAcCTO presentation at the UE-CELAC Seminar
Explaining the work accomplished and the initiatives planned for 2018 was EL PAcCTO‘s goal at the second Seminar on Public Safety between the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) held in Panama. The programme, which is funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP and Expertise France, fights organised transnational crime.
Its action plan for 2018 includes over 180 activities covering a variety of topics: the fight against people trafficking, environmental crime, cybercrime, tools for international legal and police cooperation, prison management, alternatives to prison, etc.
At the meeting, regional programmes, such as COPOLAD II and the AIRCOP Cooking Route and sub-regional programmes, such as ICRIME, were also presented. EL PAcCTO will coordinate and organise joint activities with them.
Several Latin American countries that took part showed an interest in the activities and a commitment to working with EL PAcCTO. It is therefore hoped that the discussions arising from these seminars develop into a common space for political and technical support for the initiatives, with a common core of safety and development.
And that these efforts culminate in the definition of regional strategies for fighting organized transnational crime. This is an important framework, under which strategic support can be guaranteed for the activities.
EL PAcCTO is a programme funded by the European Commission and implemented by the FIIAPP and Expertise France with the assistance of the Instituto Italo-Latino Americano (IILA) and the Instituto Camões in Portugal. It uses experts from the Ministry of the Interior in the fight against organised crime to strengthen the institutions that are responsible for ensuring the safety of the citizens of 18 Latin American countries.
