EUROsociAL+ and the Peruvian National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT) are working on promoting tax education
The Tax and Accounting Assistance Hub Programme (NAF in its Spanish acronym) has trained 700 students from 20 universities in Peru. The initiative, implemented by the Peruvian National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT) as part of the EUROsociAL+ programme, aims to promote tax education and teach students about the social benefits of taxes, covering basic tax and customs topics.
Students, thus, become strategic partners of SUNAT and collaborate in helping to enforce the public’s tax obligations. More specifically, they are trained to assist owners of small and micro business with paperwork related to making payments, submitting proof of payment and making declarations.
The aim of this programme for 2018 is for each region of the country to have at least one NAF. This year, SUNAT has added universities in the Arequipa, Junín, Cusco, Trujillo, Chimbote, Puno, Huancayo, Lima, Loreto, Piura, Ica and Tacna regions to the network.
International NAF workshop
To this end, an “International Workshop on successful experiences from Tax and Accounting Assistance Hubs (NAFs)” has been held, it was organised by SUNAT with the support of EUROsociAL+, a programme funded by the European Commission and managed by FIIAPP. The workshop covered tools and practices to promote a tax culture in the region. Representatives from Spain, Brazil and Argentina shared their experiences and results.
The results of a study on the best practices in Latin America were presented during the workshop, which was attended by over 250 students and representatives from the universities taking part in the programme.
