The project organisers have drawn up a document with information on the discussions and initial results after the launch event
“The European Union’s Bridging the Gap project not only supports the inclusion of people with disabilities in low- and middle-income countries, it also helps to build fairer societies”. With these words Neven Mimica, the Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, opened the event to officially launch the Bridging the Gap project to promote the development of inclusive and responsible policies.
The event was organised by FIIAPP and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights within the framework of European Disability and Development Week (EDDW 2017). It was attended by nearly 100 people who took part in discussions on international cooperation policies.
An official publication has been produced that summarises the day’s discussions and the conclusions reached regarding the main messages to be considered when undertaking the project (an accessible version is also available for the visually impaired).
Over the next four years Bridging the Gap aims to contribute to the socio-economic inclusion, equality and non-discrimination of people with disabilities in middle- and low-income countries in Africa and Latin America. In particular, it will act in 5 of them: Ecuador, Burkina Faso, Sudan, Ethiopia and Paraguay.
