Algiers has hosted the closing ceremony for the project to improve road safety in Algeria. The project was based on Spanish experts shadowing the reforms initiated by Algerian public administrators within the framework of revitalising the national measures for accident prevention and road safety.
Over the last two years experiences and good practices have been exchanged in order to consolidate in the institutions involved, the financing of the national policies, the perfecting of a database to provide reliable accident statistics and the improvement of road safety measures.
Similarly, the public administrators’ vision has also been implemented with respect to the new strategy to improve road safety as encapsulated by the novel concept of the “co-production of safety”, based on the coordination and combining of efforts at the national and international level as recommended by the United Nations Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.
FIIAPP has led this European Commission-funded project in offering support to the Algerian National Centre for Accident Prevention and Road Safety (CNPSR) from Spanish experts at the Directorate General for Traffic (DGT).
