PAcCTO (Europe Latin America Assistance Programme Against Organised Transnational Crime) will present its Annual Action Plan for 2108 in Brussels this month. The objective of the plan is to technically assist the 18 that are part of the programme in their fight against organised crime.
In 2017, the programme, which is being financed by the European Commission and implemented by FIIAPP and Expertise France, carried out intense work to deepen and support the demands of the countries that are part of the programme, with the collaboration of the Italo-Latin American Institute (IILA) and the Camoes Institute in Portugal.
The missions have tried to facilitate a direct dialogue between the teams involved in the programme, the institutional focal points and, where appropriate, the institutions responsible for the fight against organised crime. The aim was to give the parties involved more detailed knowledge of the situation in the country and of each beneficiary institution, and to be able to precisely define the work priorities in each component, in each country and in each of the intersectional axes (cybercrime, corruption, human rights, gender and asset laundering).
They have carried out several visits to institutions involved in the issues in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Panama, Paraguay and Uruguay. The have also held meetings with AMERIPOL, IberRed, GAFILAT, Interpol, Mercosur, SICA and AIAMP.
A Focal Points meeting was also held in Costa Rica and a Seminar on Cybercrime in Quito, which brought together specialists from the region in order to strengthen police and judicial cooperation against child abuse.
