The Twinning project for strengthening hospital management in the Maghreb country closes with excellent results.

The new Tunisian health minister, Slim Chaker, invited the team from the project that successfully established the first comprehensive medical-economic information system in all of Africa to present the results and to share their impressions in a meeting held at the ministry.
All the participants expressed their satisfaction with the excellent results of this project funded by the European Union and led by FIIAPP, in collaboration with the Castilla-La Mancha Health Service (SESCAM), to improve the effectiveness of the health system and the quality of care.
Through an accounting analysis, coding and generation of medical and economic data, the Spanish experts from SESCAM and the Tunisian professional specialists in medicine, economic management and IT developed a pioneering system for managing clinical and economic information that will make it possible to identify, among other information, the most frequent pathology at a hospital or the cost of each consultation.
A total of 16 hospitals in the country have incorporated this system which will bring them up to international standards in the classification of costs in relation to hospital services.
The main achievements include the establishment of standard medical discharge reports for all the hospitals and unique identification by patient. Moreover, the management and monitoring structure has been defined with the creation of more than 800 cost centres, and a software tool has been developed for centralisation of medical records and reports.
Funded with a budget of a €1 million, the project has contributed to improving hospital management, health care and the use of public resources.
