Debate in the European Parliament on integration of disability in the SDGs.
The Disability Intergroup of the European Parliament and the European Disability Forum (EDF) joined forces to organise the event “Inclusion by the European Union of persons with disabilities in the Sustainable Development Goals”.
FIIAPP was present at the event through the Bridging the Gap project, funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP, aimed at implementation of inclusion policies for persons with disabilities in five countries (Ecuador, Paraguay, Burkina Faso, Sudan and Ethiopia).
The debate took place at the European Parliament and was focussed on the need to integrate the disability dimension with the implementation of the public policies and inclusiveness indicators corresponding to the Sustainable Development Goals, two objectives that encapsulate the approach of the Bridging the Gap initiative.
Bridging the Gap is currently in its kick-off stage. Implementation of the project will involve three development cooperation agencies, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (IADC), the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), and two international organisations from the disability sphere, the European Disability Forum (EDF), and the International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC).
