For more than two years, European and Tunisian experts have worked to improve regulation of the telecommunications sector in Tunisia.
The project “Support to the National Telecommunications Authority in Tunisia” comes to a close. For over two years, Spanish, French and Italian experts have been working with their Tunisian counterparts to adapt the country’s regulations on electronic communications and audio-visual services and to develop regulations in the postal sector in accordance with European standards.
The aim of this international cooperation project has been to provide Tunisian citizens with a quality and competitive telecommunications and postal system. This has been accomplished by restructuring telecommunications, developing telephone line portability, and defining a new regulatory framework for the postal sector.
The Twinning project, funded by the European Commission with a budget of more than €1 million, was managed by the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP), with the collaboration of and experts from Spain’s Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC), Italy’s Autorità per le Garanzie nelle Comunicazione (AGCOM) and France’s Direction Générale des Enterprises (DGE) .
In light of the objectives adopted by the Tunisian government to develop its telecommunications networks and services by 2020, this project has taken on special importance.
