Spanish and French experts gave courses to personnel of Bolivia's Special Forces for Fighting Drug Trafficking.
“Training on detection and airport control of passengers and luggage” and “Investigation of drug trafficking crimes”, were the two courses given in the Bolivian capital, La Paz, by experts from Spain’s Guardia Civil and national police force, the Cuerpo Nacional de Policía, and the French Gendarmerie. The courses were given to anti-narcotics police personnel from Bolivia’s Fuerza Especial de Lucha Contra el Narcotráfico (Special Forces for Fighting Drug Trafficking, FELCN), the customs and immigration services, the public prosecutor’s office and the police academy.
The Coordinator General of the Coordination Secretariat of CONALTID, Sabino Mendoza Quispe, gave thanks for the support of the European Union in providing the funding for this project through the management of the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP), which is accompanying the implementation of the Strategy for the Fight against Drug Trafficking and Reduction of Surplus Coca Cultivation.
For his part, the Head of Cooperation of the European Union delegation in Bolivia, Rocco Busco, expressed his satisfaction with the successful coordination and articulation of the public institutions and consolidation of the training courses, which enabled the participants to access useful tools, protocols and international standards. “We are very happy to have such efficient partners; in the European Union we are moving forward in the fight against drug trafficking with respect to human rights, dignity and a profound respect for national sovereignty”, he stated.
Implementation of these courses will make it possible to strengthen the Bolivian experts’ knowledge of and professional commitment to the fight against drugs in the country.
