Closing of the project to adapt the Industrial Emissions Directive in FYR Macedonia

The closing ceremony for the project for legislative adaptation of the Macedonian transport system was held in Skopje, the capital of the Former Yugoslav Republic (FYR) of Macedonia.

This project worked on the adaptation of the transport system of FYR Macedonia to the community acquis, specifically the EU Industrial Emissions Directive.  This directive establishes standards aimed at preventing and controlling pollution in the air, water and ground, and for avoiding the generation of waste from large industrial facilities. For the adaptation of this directive, it was necessary to strengthen administrative systems at both the local and national level in the area of transport.
The Twinning project was implemented over two years, starting in early 2015, and funded by the European Commission with a total budget of €900,000. The project was led by the Environment Agency of Austria with the collaboration of FIIAPP, which relied on experts from the Council of Environmental Affairs of the Regional Government of Galicia (Spain) for carrying out its contribution to the project.

The closing event was attended by representatives of the participating countries and the collaborating institutions, such as the Macedonian environmental minister, Bashkim Ameti; the European affairs minister, Arbr Ademi; the Spanish ambassador to Macedonia, Ramón Abaroa; and the Austrian ambassador to Macedonia, Renatte Kobler; amongst others.
