Meeting in Madrid of criminal justice and crime experts from the countries of the southern basin of the Mediterranean and the EU participating in the EuroMED project.
First session of CrimEx of the EuroMED Justice IV Project.
Members of the governments of Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority and Tunisia met with experts and prosecutors from the European Union’s EuroJust network, the European Judicial Network (EJN) and the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate to hold the first working session on crime and criminal justice within the framework of the EuroMED Justice IV international cooperation project. This is the first session of CrimEx, a series of eight study sessions on criminal justice and international crime to be held over the next two years (2017-2018). These are working sessions within the framework of the project funded by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP, as the lead partner, together with JCI, EIPA and CILC, as the junior partners.
The aim of these sessions is to promote a coordinated response to international crime and terrorism on the part of the countries of the southern Mediterranean and to establish an international cooperation mechanism between the countries participating in the project and the European Union on judicial matters.
CrimEx has opened a space for discussion at a national and international level on the subject of criminal justice focussed on a series of themes: extradition, transfer of proceedings, evidence gathering, and recognition and execution of foreign proceedings.
The aim of these sessions is to create a series of mechanisms for coordination, strategic management and information exchange between the various countries. The ultimate objective is the preparation of a manual analysing the legislation of the participating countries with a focus on investigation and judicial criminal proceedings.
