The project to support adaptation of drug legislation in Bolivia, funded by the European Union and managed by the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP), is undertaking the first stage of the project, analysis of institutions.

In this stage, the needs of the project’s beneficiary institutions are being studied. To do so, the experts who travelled to Bolivia will tour the country until 4th April, visiting numerous institutions, to get an overview of the work being done to fight drug trafficking throughout Bolivia.

These visits will also serve to establish relationships with the institutions and plan future activities within the framework of the project. This is also the case of the visit to the Garras de Valor International Anti-narcotics Training Centre (CEIAGAVA) and to the Canine Training Centre in Cochabamba, which committed to presenting two courses in 2017. The CEIAGAVA will hold one specialised course on operational techniques, and the Canine Training Centre will hold a specialised course for canine handlers.

Anti-drug trafficking project in Bolivia

The project to support adaptation of drug legislation in Bolivia is aimed principally at the fight against drug trafficking and related crimes by providing technical training to the agents of the different Bolivian institutions involved in the fight against drug trafficking. This three-year project started in November 2016 and has a budget of €4 million.

Collaborating Bolivian institutions

The project has the support of numerous Bolivian institutions, including the FELCN (Special Anti-Drug Trafficking Force), the State Attorney General’s Office, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Directorate of Customs, Directorate of Migration, the Penitentiary Regime Directorate, the Human Smuggling and Trafficking Division of the FELCC (Special Force to Combat and Control Crime), and the UIF (Financial Investigation Unit).
