A delegation of Moroccan experts from the Governance and Integrated Water Resources Management in Morocco project visited Spain with the objective of expanding their knowledge of the Water Framework Directive, a European directive created in 2000 to establish a common policy on management of water resources.

The Ministry of Energy, Mines, Water and the Environment of Morocco is implementing the river basin management plan of the Sebou River, following the recommendations of the Water Framework Directive. To do so, as part of the project’s activities, a group of Moroccan experts participated in various meetings with their counterparts at the Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment and Centre for Hydrographic Surveys. Following these visits, the Moroccan delegation attended two training workshops at the Júcar Hydrological Confederation in Valencia, where a variety of fundamental issues for the implementation of the Water Framework Directive were addressed.

Management of water resources in Morocco

This visit is part of the Governance and Integrated Water Resources Management in Morocco project, which began in 2015 and will last 24 months. It is a project funded by the European Commission and managed by FIIAPP and the French partner, OIEau (International Office for Water) which was created to manage water resources in the Sebou river basin.
