The Disaster-Response Preparation project held a technical workshop in Australia where participants from 16 South East Asian and Pacific countries had the opportunity to receive training on international standards for field hospitals.

The International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP), along with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), is managing the international cooperation project on preparation for disaster-response, the main objective of which is to create an elite team capable of responding to a humanitarian emergency in less than 72 hours. To achieve this, training for the team is essential, and this is the focus of the project objectives.
The final training activity held within the framework of the project was a technical workshop in Australia organised in collaboration with the Office of Humanitarian Action (OAH). The workshop addressed international standards for field hospitals and was aimed at regional representatives of emergency medical teams (EMTs) from 16 South East Asian and the Pacific countries.
At this workshop, the attendees were trained through theoretical and practical sessions on the technical aspects of maintenance of an emergency hospital. In addition, they had the opportunity to learn about the work of the AUSMAT (Australian Medical Assistance Teams) from the inside and to meet experts and specialists on the AUSMAT EMT2 logistical team, which is certified by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The Disaster-Response Preparation project that started nearly two years ago is a project of Spanish Cooperation managed jointly by FIIAPP and AECID.
