From 20 to 24 July, a delegation of Jordanians will visit our country to study the Spanish electrical system as part of the Twinning project “Institutional Strengthening of Jordan’s National Electric Power Company (NEPCO)”. This cooperation project is managed by the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP) in conjunction with the Spanish Electrical Network and IDAE (Institute for Energy Diversification and Conservation).
The project, financed by the EU to the tune of 1,700,000 euros, is intended to improve the planning, management and efficiency of the national Jordanian electricity system promoting and integrating renewable energies and improving the efficiency and maintenance of transmission lines, thus reducing costs and minimising environmental impact.
The delegation, which consists of eight NEPCO representatives, will visit the Electrical Control Centre and the Renewable Energies Control Centre of the Electrical Network, as well as the undersea link between the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands and the new electrical connection between Spain and France via the Eastern Pyrenees.
The International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP) signed a Framework Agreement with the European Commission in 1997 to manage all the Twinning Projects led by Spanish institutions. Twinning projects were originally created to assist countries in their process of joining the European Union, although they have now been extended to other countries in North Africa and Eastern Europe. Since then, FIIAPP has managed more than 300 twinning projects.
