This week in Brussels a meeting was held on migration and development within the framework of a cooperation programme in which the FIIAPP collaborates

In recent years interest in migratory affairs has been growing in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union (EU). The rising number of European citizens moving to the CELAC to seek employment, CELAC nationals returning from the EU to their countries of origin, and the level of internal mobility between regional integration zones in LAC are some of the new elements that are challenging traditional migration trends. This technical seminar focused on these new challenges.
Experts from the CELAC and the EU discussed migratory flows between the two regions, progress and challenges within the framework of bi-regional migration, and analysed avenues for legal immigration.
During the seminar, the authors of the study “Migratory Dynamics between Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) and between the LAC region and the European Union” presented this publication, which was released on 3rd June of this year.
The seminar is part of the “Strengthening the dialogue and cooperation between the European Union (EU) and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to establish management models on migration and development policies”, financed by the EU and implemented by the IOM in close collaboration with the FIIAPP. With a budget of 3,000,000 euros, its purpose is to strengthen the policy dialogue between the EU and CELAC regions.
