Twenty police officers received anti-kidnapping and anti-extortion training this week through this cooperation project between Latin America and the EU which is being managed by the FIIAPP to combat organized crime.

In the framework of the training activities of the AMERIPOL-EU project, the ‘Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Extortion Course’ started last Monday and will continue until 24th April at the Training Centre of AECID in Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia). It includes the participation of police officers from the anti-kidnapping and anti-extortion divisions and units of the project’s main beneficiary countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama and Peru, as well as the National Anti-Drug Office (ONA) of Venezuela.
In this way, a total of 20 police officers will be trained by eight trainers from the IDASE and the UNASE, the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Extortion Divisions of the National Police of Colombia and the National Police of Ecuador, respectively.
The course was inaugurated by the Director General of the FELCN (Special Anti-Drug Trafficking Force) of Bolivia, the Col. DESP Santiago Delgadillo Villalpando; the Director of the Spanish Cooperation Training Centre (AECID), José Lorenzo García-Baltasar García Calvo; and the AMERIPOL-UE project coordinator, Marcos Alvar Bestilleiro.
During the inauguration, the significance of the fact that this activity is being held in Bolivia, at the express request of the Plurinational Government of Bolivia, was underlined. In addition, José Lorenzo García-Baltasar positively valued the fact that Santa Cruz de la Sierra is the site of these training sessions and, in particular the Spanish Cooperation Training Centre. The Director General of the FELCN welcomed all the participants from neighbouring countries and expressed gratitude for the support of the EU in the organization of these types of training activities aimed at strengthening cooperation between the security forces of Ibero-American countries.
