Over the course of three days, attendees at a workshop organized in Kiev, Ukraine familiarized themselves with best worldwide practices on copyright protection.

During the activity, the participants reviewed the development of the Common Management System(CMS) and analyzed the most important legislation in the USA and Europe in order to produce a draft for creation of new laws in Ukraine to enable reformand improvement of the country’s current situation with respect to intellectual property.
The inaugural act was led by Pablo Ródenas, theFIIAPP expert posted to Ukraine to coordinate the project; Nnamdi Ezera, a legal advisor from the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP); Alla Zharinova, President of the State Intellectual Property Service of Ukraine (SIPSU), and Donald Thousand,an U.S. intellectual property expert.
One of the priorities for SIPSU is to develop a clear vision of how to improve and optimize copyright protection and rights in Ukraine’s common management system.
At the end of the workshop, the participants overwhelmingly recognized the importance of the activity thanks to the possibility of closer communication with experts from important international organizations, which allowed theUkrainian experts to make progress in their work on the aforementioned new draft legislation.
Ukrainian societyfully understands the functional purpose of common management, which must occupy itself with protecting the interests of authors, composers, musicians and all types of creative professionals to protect their rights. The activities of common management organizations must be transparent and achieve fair distribution of royalties.
