Four magistrates from the Algerian Legal and Judicial Research Centre visit Spain to find examples to help them improve their work

An Algerian delegation of four magistrates doing research for Algerian legislative reform are in Spain until next Friday to learn about various Spanish public institutions in order to find sources of inspiration for their work.
The visit is within the framework of a cooperationproject financed by the European Union, which theFIIAPP is helping to manage, for strengthening the institution where these four magistrates work, theLegal and Judicial Research Centre(CRJJ, according to its French acronym). This body, which started operation in 2008 and is part of the Ministry of Justice, was created to research ways of reforming Algerian legislation taking into account the current context and problems of this North African country: from urban development and its impact on crime rates to cybercrime. The ultimate goal is to promoteeffective protection of the fundamental rights of citizens.
“We are in Spain to learn about the research centres here: their organization, functioning and work methods, to get inspiration and adapt their best practices to our centre”, explains CRJJ Director Ahmed Chafai while at the National Institution for Public Administration (INAP), the first Spanish public institution he has seen on this visit.
In addition to the INAP, the Algerian magistrates will visit the Centre for Political and Constitutional Studies (CEPC)and meet Spanish criminal law researchers at the University of San Pablo CEU, as well as at the Centre for Political and Constitutional Studies and the Legal Documentation Centre (CENDOJ) in San Sebastián. The visit comes to a close on Friday at Casa Árabein Madrid.
This is the second study visit by the CRJJ to Spain within the framework of this twinning project, which is being led by France through Justice Coopération Internationaleand managed by the FIIAPP, in which Spain is a partner country through the General Council of the Judiciary. With a European budget of €,1.145,000, it began in September 2013 and will end this July.
