Today, the first of October is Foundations day, and the FIIAPP is joining the celebration by reminding everyone of the leimotifof these organizations.
What is a foundation and how does it differ from other organizations of a social nature such as associations and NOGs? According to Rosa Gallego, International Relations Director, Self-Governing Communities and Finance Councils of the Spanish Association of Foundations (AEF), a foundation is an organization founded as a non-profit, and what differentiates it from other types or organizations is the type of beneficiaries it serves. “All the activities undertaken by foundations must fulfil general interest criteria and, in addition, must be dedicated to groups of beneficiaries. In the case of an association, for example, the scope of beneficiaries may be limited. With foundations, on the other hand, the beneficiaries are generic groups”, points out Gallego.
Today is a special day for remembering this: Foundations Day all over Europe. The representative from the AEF asserts that the idea is to show society the “wealth of work that foundations perform all over Europe and in all areas of activity”.
The projects of the FIIAPPare general interest in nature and aimed at groups of beneficiaries. For the past 17 years, this foundation has cooperated with public administrations all over the world to strengthen their public policies for a single purpose: to improve the quality of life of their citizens. In this work, the FIIAPP also enjoys the support of other foundations, such as the ONCE Foundation, which collaborated in an occupational and educational project for persons with disabilities in Tunisia, and of the CEDDET, with which it works in EUROsociAL II, the Programme for Social Cohesion in Latin America financed by the European Commission and coordinated by the FIIAPP. These are just a few examples of collaboration with foundations that benefit citizens. Happy Foundations Day.
