The FIIAPP has started a series of meetings in Africa for the purpose of collecting information about migration that will be useful for the dialogue between the European Union (EU) and Africa on migration and development, also known as the ‘Rabat Process’.

This week, Praia, the capital of Cape Verde, hosted the second of these meetings, bringing together the Cape Verdean Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Communities, Employment and Planning, a European Union (EU) delegation and the Ambassador of Spain, Mario Ferreira, for the purpose of understanding the priorities in the country’s migratory issues, as well as their future policies, actions and challenges related to the ‘Rabat Process’.
These types of meetings, coordinated by the FIIAPP and also attended by a delegation from the Foundation, are held in countries where the in situ presence of the different parties facilitates collection of information on this subject. The first was held last week in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Something that also facilitated the preparation of the meeting that will chart the course of the ‘Rabat Process’: the 4th Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development next November in Rome.
The ‘Rabat Process’ was initiated in 2006 for the purpose of confronting the challenges of migration and also to analyze opportunities for development in general. Since 2013, it has been strengthened in its third development phase through the implementation of a new support project, financed by the European Commission (EC) and led by the FIIAPP and the ICMPD, which encourages this dialogue.
