FIIAPP presents the EU-LAC migration project in Brazil

The project “Dialogue and cooperation between the European Union (EU) and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to establish management models for migration and development policies (EU-LAC)” was presented during the First National Conference on Migration and Refugees (COMIGRAR)held from 30th May to 1st June in São Paulo (Brazil).

FIIAPP supports local development in Angola
This conference was organized by the Brazilian Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Foreign Relations of Brazil, as well as the International Organization for Migration (OIM) and the UNPD. In the course of this meeting, the FIIAPP explained the work it is doing on the EU-LAC project, which is being financed by the European Union and implemented by the OIM in close collaboration with the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies.

The presentation focused on describing the project from a political and technical standpoint, detailing its three thematic components: Migration Data, Migration and Employment, and Remittances and Development Policies. This last component was presented in greater depth, highlighting the importance of having the public sector, the private/financial sector and civil society/the diaspora work together on the issue of remittances. Likewise, the main results obtained and the challenges and opportunities to be faced in the future were shared.

In the course of the participative process of creating public policies on migration and refugees, started in Brazil over 10 months ago, 202 regional preparatory conferences have been held. These were attended by a range of groups and social movements (45%), theacademic sector (16%), Brazilians living abroad (13%), the government (11%), and foreigners living in Brazil (5%). As a result, more than 2,800 proposals were prepared by a total of 5,300 participants.

As a key stage in this process, COMIGRAR was held with the objective of bringing together all the stakeholders who participated in this process to debate and generate a collective and participative reflection with the aim of enhancing the construction and implementation of public policies for migration. Over the three days,556 delegates of30 nationalities and 21 Brazilian states participated.
