A pilot programme has been rolled out in Tunisia to improve special education centres and the integration of children with disabilities in school.
A pilot programme for inclusion at school has been created as part of the project “Support for the socio-economic insertion of people with disabilities,” which is scheduled to begin this school year. The objective is to agree on the material and professional resources required for the new proposed school model.
The FIIAPP has been managing this project, which is financed by the European Commission, since December of 2012. One of the project’s major areas is education. Spanish experts from the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, the Basque Employment Service, and theONCE Foundation,areworking closely with Tunisian experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to develop various educational and training activities with professionals working in education for children with disabilities.
The pilot programme will be run in the Greater Metropolitan Area of Tunisia, coordinated by the Tunisian Higher Institute of Special Education. The project began with activities aimed at improving the quality of life for children with cerebral palsy.
Over the last ten years of this school inclusion programme for children with disabilities in Tunisia, the project has collaborated with the Tunisian authorities in diagnosing and evaluating the aforesaid programme, making suggestions and recommendations for its consequent improvement.
Another pilot project activity will begin this week, offering specialised inclusive education training and work in the network of specialized professionals and educators.
