The twinning project "Strengthening institutional capacity for the execution of European space programmes in the field of navigation using EGNOS / Galileo satellites and GMES remote sensing" has been launched in Kiev, in the Ukraine.

The new twinning project on satellite navigation and remote sensing, which is financed by the European Union and managed by the FIIAPP, was officially inaugurated at the National Space Agency in the Ukraine.
The Ukraine is currently one of the best-known countries for satellite navigation, thanks to its research capacity in this field, among other things. After gaining its independence, the Ukraine inherited one third of the space capacity of the former Soviet Union.
The space industry in the Ukraine has great potential, which is why they have considered cooperating with other countries in this area. The Institute for Space Research in the Ukraine (SSAU) has signed an agreement with the European Space Agency (ESA) and is hoping to cooperate with the space agencies of EU Member States.
The project’s objective is to improve the capacity of the National Space Agency and the space industry in the Ukraine by actively participating in and contributing to European space initiatives, particularly in the field of satellite navigation (Galileo) and Remote Sensing. Spanish experts from the National Technical Aerospace Institute (INTA) will conduct various activities in the Ukraine to help achieve this objective.
The following people participated in the inauguration ceremony: Jan Tombinski, the EU Ambassador in the Ukraine; José Rodríguez Moyano, the Ambassador of Spain in the Ukraine; and the Project Managers and Resident Twinning Advisers from the Ukraine and Spain.
